지도하는 학생이 오늘 나에게 해준 말이다.
스톱워치, 계획표, 필기구
우리는 공부하면서 많은 것에 신경을 쓴다.
이 외에도 좋다는 문제집
좋은 강의들, 갖지 않으면 손해인 것 같은 기분에
“한 번이라도 봐야지”
“여기에 알짜들만 다 모으면 난 최고가 될거야”
이런 생각과 함께 점점 우리의 책장, 책상은 늘어간다.
공부법, 그것도 마찬가지다.
이제는 좋다는 공부법을 쉽게 접할 수 있고
다 좋은 방법 같기에 그것들의 공통점을 뽑아내고
최상의 공부법으로 진행하고 싶은 마음에 자꾸 무언가 찾아본다.
하지만 그렇게 많아질수록
되려 하지 못하는 것들, 건드리지 못하는 것들에 대한 불안이 커지고.
공부를 하면서 공부에 집중하는 것보다
그 이후에 공부시간, 오늘의 계획, 앞으로의 계획
이런 저런 걱정에 휩싸인다.
심리적인 요인만이 아니라 실제로
우리의 ‘주의력’이 용량에 한계가 있고
그 말은 곧 분산될수록, 공부에 몰입을 놓친다는 것이다.
사실 내가 아무리 많이 걱정하고 계획을 세우더라도
내가 지금 할 수 있는 것은 뻔하다.
미래의 계획을 어떻게 짜든
내가 지금 풀 수 있는 수학의 양은 그대로다.
되려 몰입하지 않아 공부에 투자되는 시간을 잃을수록
미래의 계획은 흐트러진다.
공부는 단순해야 한다.
빈 공간에서 나와 책
이 둘이 온전히 만나야 한다.
머릿속을 정리하는 것도 중요하지만
실제로 주변을 정리하고
눈앞에 쓸모없는 책, 도구들을 정리하는 것부터 해보자.
신경 쓸게 있다는 것은 우리의 주의력이 분산이 된다는 것이 분명하니까.
그래서 결국 결론은
공부하자는 말이다.
공부, 온전히 공부에 몰입하기 위해
마치 도를 닦는다는 기분으로 차분하게 한 글자 한 글자 써내려가자.
글씨를 잘 쓰라는 말도 그 맥락이고
공부가 급해져서 안 된다는 것도 사실 본질은 비슷하다.
“그저 빈 책상에 볼 책 하나”
이 말을 잊지 말자.
